Ssshhh!  I’m about to share a secret recipe with you.  A recipe that will make any tween or teen think you are “Awesome-sauce.” It’s summer, and the kids are bored, right?  Using ingredients you likely have in your kitchen and bathroom, you can easily make custom flavored lip glosses for a fraction of the cost in the store.  This craft can be done at birthday parties, sleep-overs, or just for fun. Adults love it, too!

What you’ll need:

1 tablespoon vegetable shortening

1 drink mix packet, such as Kool-Aid (choose your flavor and color)

1/4 teaspoon hot water

What you do:

Mix the in a bowl until smooth and set to the side.  In another bowl, mix the water and drink mix (don’t add any sugar!).

Still with me here?  Good.  Now start adding small amounts of the juice/water mixture to the shortening until it is the color you want. When finished, place it into tiny jars, empty lip gloss containers, ziplock bags…Anything that will hold it.

Wasn’t that easy?  You can add tiny bits of glitter to your new lip gloss (a little bit goes a LONG way), decorate the jars with paper, ribbon, and beads and give them as gifts or wear a new flavor each day.

Bonus Project!

I couldn’t let you go with just one project.  Let me show you a little something to do with all those rolls of pretty duct tape you have.

What you’ll need:

Scissors

Duct tape

Bobby pins

What you do:

Cut a length of tape twice as long as you want your bow to be (about 4″ for a hair bow).  Lay the tape down, sticky side up, and fold the ends in to meet in the middle.  You should now have the decorative side of the tape showing on both sides.  With your fingers on the outer edges in the middle, pinch it together to shape a bow.  Cut a 2″ strip of tape length-wise and wrap it (sticky side down) around the center where you pinched it together.  Slide a bobby pin into the back, and pop it in your hair!

Make this bow in several sizes and use it for more than just your hair.  You could even make a smaller version to decorate your lip gloss jar!
