Autumn is right around the corner here in America.  Before we know it we will be seeing the leaves change colors and drift to the ground, smelling the spices of the season, and eventually stuffing ourselves with delicious turkey and pie.  Take advantage of the cooler days and gorgeous natural backdrop, and spend some time outdoors to capture some pictures to celebrate the season.

This frame is a great example of just how beautiful the oranges, reds, and yellows are this time of year.  Imagine yourself watching the leaves fall off the trees as you stroll through the woods, kicking the leaves around, and hearing them crunch under your feet.

Who could possibly resist this cowboy posing in the Fall foliage?  Not me!  Go on…Add yourself in there for fun, or take him out to jazz up your own pictures.  Look how the red leaves accent the frame.  Grab your favorite red sweater, snap a pic, and be prepared to fall in love with the scenery.

With school back in session, don’t forget to create some dazzling shots with the kids.  Grab their school pictures and have fun with this one!  What is sweeter than your little darlings faces embedded in logs with squirrels on top?  This one is sure to be a keeper, and will hang around long after the spectacular colors have disappeared.

Next stop: Camping!  This is the perfect time of year to find a secluded cabin in the woods to hide away for a weekend (or two!).  Just looking at this one, I can easily imagine being curled up next to a fireplace with a good book and great friends.

Last, we have autumn memories.  It’s important to stop and appreciate how Mother Nature shows herself during the changing of the seasons.  The beauty can be so short-lived, sometimes we forget to put the chaos that life brings aside and just enjoy for a bit.

I hope you will enjoy using these frames as much as I’ve enjoyed sharing them!

DIY Gifts–Craft and Save

Do you have a long list of people to give gifts to and wonder how you will afford gifts for all these people? A great way to save money but also give your loved ones a meaningful gift is to make a gift for them. Each gift you craft can save you a bundle!

Decorated Candle Jars

Candle Holder Craft

Everyone loves receiving candles as a gift but it has the potential for being redundant. But if you craft some embellished jars with beads, charms and ribbons, this will make an otherwise common gift unique and special! The candle jars pictured follow a silver color scheme but you can use multiple colors and multiple schemes so the possibilities are endless! Everything you need can be found at your local craft store like the one this photo came from.

Stenciled Jars

Stenciled Craft Jars

These can be a great gift for anyone! These jars can be used to drink out of, to hold utensils, to organize a desk, or just for decoration. All you need is mason jars, stencils, and paint. The paint can be applied with a regular craft brush or a foam brush. Tip: If your gift recipient has a sweet tooth, you can fill the jar with their favorite kind of candy.

Decorated Ornaments

Christmas Craft Ornament

Giving ornaments might be perceived as another overdone Christmas gift but with the right amount of craft, this will be a very special gift. A box of plain ball ornaments is very inexpensive and then you can paint it or use stickers with a clear background or find tissue paper with a pretty design and use craft glue to attach it. In the example pictured the reindeer face is a thumb print and then just paint a few lines and dots to create these holiday friends!

Homemade Gift Box

A doubly crafty gift idea: use the skills you learned in the recent Trendy Summer Jewelry blog entry and make a necklace or earrings for a special lady and wrap them in this homemade gift box! You can purchase a plain take-out box and paint it. Then use a wooden cut out and decorate or paint it and glue it to the box. Or you could use gems or ribbons or stencils to decorate the box. Mix and match with any of the above ideas! Get your creative juices flowing and give your friends and loved ones a gift they will treasure!

As summer winds to an end we all get a little emotional.  Memories were made, vacations were taken, images captured.  What better way to commemorate these events than with this awesome frame?  It just screams summer with flip-flops, sand, sun, and seashells:

The beach has become iconic of the American summer vacation.  Families across the country take an average of 4.5  trips per year, and sun and sand are the most popular destinations. The end of summer also brings back-to-school preparations.  It might be your child’s first time off to kindergarten, or a nearly grown teenager returning to class.  Either way, we have to get ready.  We want them to look their best on that first day back.  Hair combed smoothly, wearing the trendiest looks to hide their nervousness.  Be sure to snap a shot of them as they head out the door.  They’re sure to complain, but you’ll be glad they did when you can look back at them in this frame in a few years:

While shopping for new clothes and shoes to wear, don’t forget to grab supplies!  Fill up that new backpack with brightly colored pencils, pens, folders, and notebooks.  The store shelves are filled with every character and color scheme the kids are into.  With more options than ever before, back-to-school will be a lot less “boring.”  Check out this frame for inspiration:

As the school year progresses, there are various concerts, plays, parties, and sporting events to record for future reminiscing.  Also, you cannot forget the everlasting school picture.  Using Imikimi frames will provide boring school pictures with the opportunity to shine, and they’ll make cherished keepsakes for friends and family:

Your child’s teacher plays a significant part of his or her school year.  Teachers are with the kids day in and day out and (usually) come to feel as if they are their own children.  Sneak a class picture while you’re on a field trip, or take a photo of the teacher from the yearbook and stick it here for a Christmas gift that’s sure to make her smile:

Beauty on a budget has been a concern among women (and men!) for years.  You have that one outfit with no jewelry to match it, or perhaps you’ve seen a piece from an expensive brand and cannot bear the thought of spending a lot of money for occasional wear… Do-it-yourself jewelry crafts can be found all over the web for all skill levels using things you might just have laying around the house!  Here are five fun wearable’s you can craft today:

1.  Using paperclips, tape (any kind), and jewelry findings you can create one-of-a-kind pieces that will get you plenty of attention!  Imagine making this in all colors for variety.Image           Photo Credit: How About Orange

2.  Wondering what to do with all those old cd’s you have?  Break them up, glue them to felt, and BAM you have a new pair of earrings.  You could get very creative with this one by using shapes other than circles.  Think rectangles or triangles.ImagePhoto Credit: PinkChocolateBreak

3.  Taking a vacation this year?  Make a wearable memory of it by cutting your destination from a map and gluing it onto a cabochon.  This would also make a great gift for any recipient.

4.  Root through your garage or basement to find this simple, yet bold ingredient for a ring: A basic hex nut from the hardware store, painted any color you desire!  Clicking the photo will also show you how to make other crafts with nuts and washers as well.ImagePhoto Credit: Design Crush

5.  Last, but not least, you’ll need a place to store all of your sparkly new trinkets, right?  An old frame and strips of lace should do the trick.  ImagePhoto Credit: Decor4all

Summertime sparks an intuitive collection of photos propelled by children and the everyday joys of water, toys and endless amounts of energy. It’s not hard to find a little inspiration right outside your door. Snapping photos of  summer playtime can ignite even the tiniest bit of nostalgia within minutes – and last a lifetime. The perfect key elements to great summertime photos are literally just a click away. The summer world is ready to go – just add children!

Waterworks at the pool

Great pool poses are instant classics.  From up close face shots, splashing, jumping, swimming and playing, children are aqua-batic tricksters waiting for a photo op.

Beaches are for bums (and children)

Pool time may be the highlight of a child’s day, but they are second rate when it comes the beach. Salty water, fish, shells and sandcastles can fill a child’s summertime dreams at night. Mention those sandy shores to any tike and watch those eyes light up!

Any toy will do, thankyouverymuch!

The great thing about children is that they do not need a large body of water to occupy their summertime days and keep your camera busy making memories.  Bubbles, water hoses (and water toys), sidewalk chalk and lemonade stands provide ample ingredients for photo magic (and fun!) during the blissful summer days.
